The historic Chilkoot Trail is the "Gateway to the Klondike." It was the Klondike Gold Rush of 1896-99 that transformed the Chilkoot Trail into legend. Today thousands of people follow the route of the stampeders along this 33-mile long trail, the longest outdoor museum in the world.

The old townsite of Dyea boasted a bustling population of more than 10,000 during the gold rush. A daily walking tour is offered by the National Park Service Rangers. Visit the historic 'Slide Cemetery'. Other activities in Dyea include dog sled rides, horseback tours, day trail hikes, river rafting, bird watching, fishing and much more.
